Motion Metrics Sponsors Botswana Cycle Challenge

Recently, our very first customer – Orapa Diamond Mine (Botswana) – organized a ‘Bike for Education’ charitable cycling race. The proceeds from this event support underprivileged members of the mining community. Specifically, funds will provide bikes for children who reside in remote areas far from schools, who travel long distances everyday to and from school. Proceeds will also build a jungle gym for a local primary school, as well as provide a variety of educational materials and equipment. Motion Metrics joined forces with other companies and generously sponsored the event.

Orapa Diamond Mine is the world’s largest diamond mine located in Orapa, a mining town in the Central District of Botswana, approximately 530kms from the capital city Gaborone. Orapa Mine and Motion Metrics have a long term business relationship dating back to 2003. The mine has the latest Motion Metrics’ ShovelMetrics™ full suite system.

The Race was categorized as follows:

  • Main Race – 115kms
  • Short Race – 50kms
  • Fun Ride – 10kms

Mr. Bobby Sebeo, an enthusiastic cyclist, our system installation specialist and Motion Metrics representative in Africa, participated in this noble cause. Bobby finished the race in 4hrs 14mins, despite suffering a rear wheel puncture within the first 23kms that set him back almost 15minutes!
