Motion Metrics Sponsors Brazilian Mining Students’ Educational Visit to Chile

Every year, mining engineering students from the Lutheran University of Brazil’s Palmas campus (Centro Universitário Luterano de Palmas) travel to mine sites to gain hands-on knowledge of how the industry operates.

This spring, Motion Metrics proudly sponsored the trip which saw the students visit the Gabriela Mistral copper mine in the copper-rich Antofagasta region of northern Chile. The technical visit included tours of the mine’s Virtual Training Center, where the students were treated to demonstrations of the mine’s latest equipment, including its state of the art fleet of autonomous haul trucks.

The mine visit was an exceptional opportunity to learn and apply what was learned in the classroom; especially for Iarla Dias, a student in her final year in the mining engineering program: “I am doing my thesis on the flotation of copper, so to know how the whole chain of copper works is very important for my research work,” said Dias.
