Motion Metrics was proud to sponsor the UBC team at this year’s Canadian Mining Games, which took place in Kingston, Ontario from February 22nd to 25th. Queen’s University hosted the 28th annual academic and technical competition, wherein teams of students from Mining Engineering programs across Canada meet to test their mining skills and knowledge.
The teams of 16 students competed in 23 challenges devised by sponsors. Students gained hands-on experience identifying minerals in ore samples, designing blast patterns, and performing simulated mine rescues. We were pleased to learn that the UBC team talked about the benefits of using tools like PortaMetrics™ during the Drill and Blast competition, for which they placed first.
The annual friendly competition also provides mining students with opportunities to network with potential employers and industry representatives. Sponsors typically observe and interact with students during competition and can evaluate performance for a unique recruitment experience.
This is the second year we have sponsored the Canadian Mining games and are thrilled to be a part of this wonderful event. “We could not have attended without your generous support for our team,” said representatives from the UBC crew. “Words cannot express our gratitude for your sponsorship.”
The UBC team placed in the top three for each of the 23 competitions and finished third overall. We’re very proud and would like to congratulate all of this year’s participants!
