As of 2 years ago, I have been working on sales in South Africa and Botswana. Other than the very long flight, I love visiting these two countries – the food is great and inexpensive and the people are very welcoming. In comparison to South Africa, Botswana is a small country with a smaller population that is less reliant on technology. On one of my trips to Botswana, I was lucky enough to visit Kasane and Victoria Falls. In Kasane, I had the opportunity to see many wild elephants, rhinos, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and of course monkeys. I was able to capture a lot of these moments as you can see.
On the work side, we have successfully sold systems to diamond mines in Botswana and very recently a big sale to an Iron Ore mine in South Africa. This mine has been testing Motion Metrics technology for about 2 years and have now purchased 8 more payload measurement systems for all of their hydraulic shovels. With these systems in place, they are able to easily track their production and know how each shovel is performing on each shift. We even provide a report with the number of buckets each shovel takes to fill a truck!
During this trip I was showcasing and testing PortaMetrics in a diamond mine in Botswana and the blast engineer had the biggest smile on his face, his boss said, no wonder he is smiling, “now he can do one days worth of work in just a few minutes!” They bought 3 units. Next year I look forward to more trips to this beautiful region.
