A Letter From Our CEO

A letterhead with Motion Metrics' contact information.

To our valued stakeholders:

January 2021 – At this time last year, I could never have imagined the disruption our global community would face. Many have witnessed immeasurable loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic and I wish all who have been affected my sincere heartfelt condolences. Yet, as I reflect on this historic period, I am heartened by our resilience and remain hopeful for the future. In a world dismantled by rapid and enduring change, our people at Motion Metrics remain dedicated to protecting one another while advancing our vision of safe, smart, and sustainable mining.

In this era of travel restrictions and physical distancing, the pandemic has driven home the value of our global business model. With customers in remote locations around the world, Motion Metrics has been incredibly grateful for our five international offices in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Russia, and South Africa, and our remote employees in Kazakhstan and Mexico. These specialized local teams have safely visited our customer mines throughout the pandemic, ensuring the smooth operation of our products worldwide.

Although the Motion Metrics family remains physically separated, we have never felt more connected. Because of our global business model, and thanks to several years of healthy revenue growth, we not only retained all our valuable employees throughout the pandemic, but grew to exceed 100 employees worldwide.

Even as we adapted to the new normal, I am proud to report that Motion Metrics started an ambitious sustainability initiative this year. Climate change remains a looming threat that we all realize deserves our urgent attention. In August 2020, we kickstarted a 3.5-year, multi-party sustainability project led by Motion Metrics.  With $5.6M funding from the federal foundation Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) and the help of our consortium partners, we will design, develop, and deploy a novel mine-to-mill energy efficiency solution that will reduce energy consumption during the comminution process by at least 15%. We are a student of the sustainability movement and learning as we go, but this is an exciting and challenging endeavor that we are thrilled to embark on.

The year 2020 fundamentally altered our society and ushered in a new era of change, but none of that has deterred our industry from building a safer, smarter, and more sustainable future together. On behalf of Motion Metrics, I express my deepest gratitude to our amazing customers for their continued trust and partnership. We wish all our stakeholders a very happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shahram Tafazoli, Founder & CEO
